Jake and I were in the front room talking...Emmaus walked out of the room into the kitchen, then came back in a few minutes later. Jake and I looked at eachother, and then went into the kitchen to see what he had done. He had had a piece of crumpled up paper in his hand when he left and when he came back it was gone. The little smarty handsome awesome boy opened up our trash can, deposited the paper and then closed it!!! No prompting no nothing....This kid is unstoppable...
Then today when I got home from work Jake tells me that while he was going potty Emmaus said potty...so Jake tried to put him on his little toilet trainer, but Emmaus didn't want that...so he stood up...walked over to the toilet, pounded on the lid, till Jake opened it, and Emmaus started peeing. Obviously the little one isn't quite tall enough (yet) to reach it so it went all over the rug....but he totally did it, and wants to do it!!! Can one teach a baby to pee standing up at such a young age? I feel like I should get a stepping stool for him....curious what he'll do next.
Not to not mention that when we were in MO last week he mastered climbing up the rock wall and sliding down the slide...unassisted....I'll post that video on FB sometime soon. This "baby" boy is unbelievable...and then there's his vocabulary....verbal and signing....
I could go on...but....I'll stop.

sugar and spice....
As many/all of you may have heard, We are having a baby girl in September...!!!
Jake preferred a girl this time (He really likes the name we picked out -WE AREN"T ANNOUNCING the name till birth...sorry folks.), and I think I did too...although, I would have been super happy with 2 boys...
Now we have one of each, and I can have a mini me too....(Doubtful really, she'll be taller than me by 10 like my niece alex was...slight exaggeratoin, but it will happen I'm certain.)
So I'm having a itch to go buy something girlie...but I'm trying to resist until I know of something we actually need....we'll see how long that lasts...
giggles.
I looked online yesterday for some girlier diaper covers, but unsatisfied with the selections. I'm not sure what colors I want to focus on....Marroon so far is the only one that is standing out...maybe Cerulean blue...it's my favorite crayola color. The purples and pinks just aren't doing it for me...and I honestly had an open mind about it. I just don't like idea of butterflies and flowers...or hearts. I liked stars growing up...and sort of just want to decorate with those....
We'll see what happens.
I'm super excited about knowing she's a girl and am able to say I'm going to have a daughter. I've already started praying for our relationship....moms and girls don't always have the best rapport...but ...with God's grace, I won't live in fear of that. Everyday is a new day!!
SOOO looking forward to these next 4 months, labor and delivery and the whole kit and caboodle....
She moves around a lot right now...we are almost 22 weeks (Just shy of the 5 month mark.). She's measuring a little small they said, but everything else looks perfect. (Nothing wrong with small girls...-hehe)
We are going to MO next week for Alex's (my niece's) Graduation. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone. This will be the first time that everyone except my mom will meet Emmaus. My Gma and Aunts are coming down too, and a cousin or too...so it's our mini reunion. I haven't seen the family for almost 2 years now...so this is really great timing.
So excited.

sniffle sniffle, blow
The past few days/nights my nose has been stuffed up. It wakes me up a few times a night. It's not too bad, I'm thinking it's either allergies, or something to do with this crazy weather we call Spring, that won't make up it's mind.
Last night Emmaus sounded funny before we put him to bed. Not funny haha, funny....queer?...haha.
He wasn't lethargic, on the contrary him and Jake were playing this rigorous game of daddy hiding under Emmaus' favorite blanket and then Emmaus' pulling it off and daddy attacking his belly with kisses....that game went on and on and on. H was drinking a lot and then it was bedtime. Around 4 am I heard this barking cough come from his crib. I laid in bed waiting to see if any other crazy sounds would come, but it didn't. I tried to go back to sleep, but curiosity got the better of me. Armed with my cell phone, I went through the house trying to find my baby book...the one that talks about all those strange things we encounter. I found it and looked up coughing. I had a sneaky suspicion it was croup, but I wasn't sure. Alas, the bark, was croup, or allergies....hmmm..
But he's drinking a lot, and he doesn't have a fever, so we're feeling okay. The humidifier has been going for a few days in his room (at night.) so I think we are doing what we can for now....just sucks for him.
I'm at work today, but wishing I was home. Sort of sucks cause I'm trying to save my sick time for September...I feeling better now than I did an hour ago. I'm glad I'm at this job today and not up at the U.
My belly is doing good. Popping out more and more...looking cute. I'll have to get a picture taken sometime soon. Other than these cold symptoms, still not feeling "pregnant"...looking forward to the Ultra Sound May 2nd to ease that stress of making sure all is well with the baby.
Emmaus is picking up new words everyday. He said Bumbles and Jojo on Sunday (mom and dad's dog and uncle jojo...) He said something last night that was so cute, but my brain is sooo not remembering things very well these days...I'll have to ask Jake.
The semester is practically over for me at the U. My first semester back after 5 years, and now at the U not the Community College, I'm getting almost 100% in both classes (they are pretty easy, but good info.) Very proud of myself. Registered for 4 for the Summer. (That should be fun.)
Jake is taking a break from gigs after working 5 days a week for a month and a half. It's nice to have him home more often. And he's already started working outside on the garden, painting the basement, doing his man stuff. He's such a good man, if I do say so myself.

Reno: 16 weeks for baby U2
Our friends Erin and Corey moved last summer to Seattle, then just a few weeks ago moved to Reno. We had planned to go visit them over Spring Break wherever they were. So Reno... it was.
We took a trip to Tahoe a few years ago with my parents. (you might remember the post.) Reno is just shy of reaching Tahoe.
This was our longest car ride with Emmaus so far. Total hours: 10. He did amazingly well. He learned how to nod his head up and down while we were driving. That was really exciting for us. On the trip he also started signing bread really clearly. And he learned how to say and sign cat. (Thanks to Larry.) Emmaus watched Finding Nemo on the drive and was captivated by it. He signs fish now too. I'm hoping to take him to the aquarium this summer.
I'm trying to remember details from the trip. Mapquest said it would take us 7.5 hours. We really wanted to take our time. It was such a relief not having to rush every stop like I am used to doing.
We stopped out to visit our friends Brook, Zac, Eli, and Justus on our way out. Such a cute family, such great friends. What a handsome baby.
Emmaus was asleep in the car while we were visiting but woke up towards the end, so he stayed awake and we pulled over again at the Salt Flats for a potty stop. And photo shoot. He loves being outside now that he has his walking/running legs. He's so cute to watch the joy spread over his face thinking he can outrun us.
From there, I can't remember exactly when we stopped, until we were in Winnemucca, NV. Nothing really eventful on the drive. I think it's a beautiful drive though. There are mountains the whole way. There was still snow on the ground too in some places. So if you ever think that you don't want to drive I-80 west cause it's boring, I'd say think again.
Emmaus finally fell asleep after we ate at Jack-in-the-Box. (I do love their tacos.) It sort of sucked though, cause my tacos are laced with grease and fat, and Jake goes and orders a nice salad with grilled chicken. and Emmaus got a mini pita pocket thing. I felt very unhealthy compared to them...at least I ordered a side salad too....smirk.
Emmaus slept, Jake drove, I rode till we got to Reno!!
None of us really had an agenda while we were there, other than being together and playing games. Check, Check.
Corey was working so Erin and Jake and Emmaus and me went out "on the town" together. We never actually went into Reno, didn't step into a casino either. We toured Virginia St. (sort of a joke, cause that's the thorougfair that we drove up and down everyday.)
We went to an antique mall (not a good idea with Emmaus, but it was still cute to see, minus the snow storm that started while we were browsing.), We went to Toy'sRUs (Emmaus' first visit there...no toys, but I did buy him these cute jeans, on sale. He had wet through his other ones...darn it, having to buy him new clothes-wink.)
Really I should skip to the highlights I guess:
Fatboys hamburgers (what a great flavor)
Jake had Pizza balls....he liked them.
Buffalo Wild WIngs. -that is some great sauce, specially the garlic one. AND you can play trivia while you are eating. That was perfect for us, games, good food, and they even had a special menu for erin that showed No Dairy Items. She was super happy about that.
We went to Aeropostale and found a jeans sale for $7.99 each! I got 2 pair. Won't beable to wear them for long, but I couldn't pass up such a good deal. The coolest store Erin and I stumbled into was called Charming Charlie. From the outside and signs you can't tell what they sell, so we wanted to check it out. When we first walked in it everything was PINK. but then as you enter the store more, they have all sorts of accessories, purses, scarves, wallets, earrings, hats....it was really schnazzy. I bought a new wallet, case for my sunglasses and a sexy dress. I'll have to take a pic for you sometime....it's daring, but I really like it.
We played Harry Potter clue (SOO much fun!) Dominion, but of course, and Settlers. They introduced us to 2 games too, one was called Dixit..fun game, like Apples to Apples but with Pictures....and Scattegories, but their version has categories. I thought this was much more fun than the original version.
I love hanging with the Stissers, not only do we like the same things, but we always have great convo's too. Like introducing Erin to Autotuning...I think that's what it's called...
We were going to drive out to Tahoe again, but with the wind and weather/snow wasn't allowing for an enjoyable time, so we'll just have to go back later this summer. You won't hear me complain about that!
Emmaus saw for the first time Robin Hood (disney) and Meet the Robinsons...such great movies. I really feel like he was getting an education more than just being set in front of the tv...if you know what I mean. His favorite thing about the trip though was Gavin and Larry.
There is a lake on the property where they are living, so we went out there to stretch our legs and give gavin a walk. It's really pretty. Windy, but really pretty.
I almost forgot, we went to a really nice Thai restaraunt. I wasn't sure what to get cause Jake and I don't eat Thai much, but I think we all enjoyed our meals. I loved the environment. Especially the chairs. I should've taken a photo, but didn't...bad me.
We got there Wednesday night and left Mid morning on Sunday.

(As per Baby U2...we have our 2nd Prenatal appointment this coming tuesday to hear the heartbeat again, then 3 weeks later we'll find out the gender! I'm almost done with the antibiotics the midwives suggested, other than my little baby bump that you can see if you look hard enough, I wouldn't even know that I was pregnant (Thank you Lord.)...cept for all the potty stops that is.) More news to follow.

1st trimester: Check
We went to the Midwife Center on Tuesday for our 12 week checkup. I guess even though all our dates were the same, last cycle date, due date etc... they said we were 13 weeks....so yea, end of 1st Trimester...only 2 more to go!
We heard heart beat, even did a quick ultra sound to make sure there was only one baby. .....There is, just the one. But that was our first US...the official one will be in 7 weeks. We are finding out the gender this time and we'll post that when we know. But we won't be giving out names again...sorry.
I have a bit of a cold right now, and I think I gave it to Emmaus. Poor kid has a cough. We also think he has teeth coming in too so his mood is off as is his eating schedule. We have been really fortunate with the loving friends and family we have that have been helping us take care of Emmaus while Jake has been working this month. It's SUCH a relief. I can't say that enough.
So we are not doing a homebirth this time. From the complications we had with Emmaus we decided being at a center would be best. We looked into one other facility in the area that wasn't in a hospital, but decided in the end to go with the Midwife Center at IMC. I heard good recommendations, and they seem to fit well with our busy schedule. At this point, I'm just looking forward to having a smoother delivery than last time. People say the second baby is easier, but really if the 1st time we did it in 40.5 hours, this time I'm hoping for 35 or less!
If you have any questions, feel free to post it. We're due Sept 11....that backwards is 119! (my bday/best bday in the world.)
We have a graduation/baby celebration in Missouri in May and 2 weddings coming up later this year...one probably spring, one probably fall. So we have plenty of things to keep us busy till delivery time. I'll keep you posted!

10 weeks pregnant and busy as ever
I realize it's been awhile since I've posted. Couldn't really think of much to say. (If you can believe that.)
I'm doing well in school still. Getting a little energy back. I don't remember being this tired carrying Emmaus. But I really shouldn't complain. We're 10 weeks along...3 more to go till we enter the 2nd trimester if you can believe it...almost feels like de ja vu.
Jake has been super busy. He's got one more week of Phantom of the OBT, and he has gigs all this week up at the Montage in Deer Valley.
I've been reading the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for our women's group at e-Vin
Emmaus had his 1 year check up he's 22.14 lbs and 31 inches. We're about to switch him to a front facing car seat within the next month or so.
We're going to Reno to visit our amazing friends the Stisser's, very much looking forward to that.
I'm going home now. I get most of today off....This is very exciting, because I work pretty much everyday....yea for some time with my baby and my man!

He's 1!
Here's my attempt at his 1 year old photo shoot

His encounter with the birthday cake. I have never heard of a kid not going for it...he wouldn't touch it.
The icing on his mouth is from mommy trying to force/encourage him to try it....still a no go.
Daddy made this double layered yellow cake with chocolate frosting...and yes, mommy shot the candle from the wrong angle...use your imagination.
Just after the cake eating, he went straight for the bowls of chips...that's MY son!
pretty good for only having 5.10 teeth (one has popped through, but isn't really good for chewing yet.)
You can't eat just one.
Thanks again for everyone who came to celebrate at the last minute. I'm glad we could make his day special.
