Living in the now
(no pics this time, I keep puting them on FB and dont' seem interested in putting them on both sites....eventually I'll update the blog...promise.)
I love it when I have some big trip coming up. I love the planning, packing, organizing, and counting down. Life right now doesn't have a HUGE trip coming up.
We are planning a weekend jaunt to Page, Arizona with my parents, and some friends from church. That's in 2 weeks.
Next weekend we are going to deditcate Emmaus at e-Vin.
This Sunday we might drive up to the Spiral Jetty.
In August, Jake's family is driving up to Yellowstone, and we'll be meeting them up there for a few days.
Right now things that are going on aren't "on the radar" but we're having a good life still. Jake has been in the Star Ward at the Off Broadway Theater for the past 5 weeks or so. Emmaus and I have gone 12 times, with 2 more to go. The cast loves seeing the baby there.
We just finished watching the series finale of Lost. There went our Tuesday night funness.
Arts group that we head at our church is probably going to be put on hold for the summer. We're having one more Art Night the first Sat. of June, should be a good time. (If you are reading and will be in the area, I hope you come and check it out...local artists, and probably a local improv troop.)
Other than that, eating, sleeping, feeding emmaus, changing diapers, playing with emmaus, playing games with Jake (mostly dominion), working, dr. appointment for Emmaus' 4 months, studying for my national certification performance test that I'll be taking later in the fall, spending time with my family on sundays and Bible study on sunday nights,...now that I write everything out, I guess I do have plenty of things going on. Gotta love perspective.
I'm just really thankful for my life. For the provision that God has giving our family. For the love I have with my amazing husband and the support we have for one another. I couldn't do it without him, and could do NOTHING without God.
I Praise you Lord.

driving etiquette
Jake and I have this discussion about driving etiquette often.
Here's the scenario: You are driving on the freeway. You are in the right lane cause you will be exiting at the next exit. There is an on ramp merging just ahead. You see a car approaching from the on ramp. It looks like you are going about the same speed and when the merge is complete will be at the same spot.
Do you A: get into the lefter lane and allow the oncoming car to merge effortlessly, then resume your drive, getting into the right lane again once the other car has gotten over, OR
B: stay at your same speed in the right lane and expect the merging car to adjust their speed accordingly to successfully merge?
I always get over and resume my drive, Jake however feels its the merging cars responsibility. We have agreed to disagree. But I keep bringing the issue up.
I wanted to know what other people think, and or prefer. One of Jake's complaints, if I can say it right, is that when someone like me gets over for the merger...if he was the person merging, he is gauging his speed to get on the freeway to avoid the car in the right lane, however when people like me move over, sometimes they wind up driving in his blind spot, and that it's actually causing more harm than good.
And my thought is that an onramp is there for the oncoming car to get up to freeway speed, so if I'm up to speed on the on ramp and there's a car in my oncoming lane, why don't they just move over so I can get onto the freeway and then I can get myself to a middle lane and they can have their spot back, it seems more like a naturaly dance flow, than having to slow down or speed up because someone is blocking my entrance...

torture:aka mother's day
look, no strings!
I really never wanted to be one of those moms that tried to get their kid to do something cool, like stupid pet tricks or whatever. but really, Emmaus has been wanting to stand since...well, as long as we can remember. so, Jake started seeing if he'd stand without us holding on to him. He did, we've only done it like 3 times..and only for a moment, but long enough to grab a pic...here it is...this one was taken at the theater where jake has been the parody, Star Ward.

Mother's day, I wanted a pic with my reason for being a mom. Many of you know, that I'm somewhat picky when it comes to pics of me. So, after a short photo shoot outside didn't work (wind and background problems...) I decided to take these myslef..
Emmaus fell asleep shortly after these were taken. You can't see it, but the shirt I'm wearing says New Mom 2010. My sister, Angelina, gave it to me. I love it! Yeah for being a new mom. Again, to all you mom's out there, I'm proud to join your ranks.

Sickness and stuffy noses
Jake's been sick the last 2 days. He hasn't been sick for like 18 months. It was hard on Jake being home alone with the baby and NOT being able to play and have fun with him. Fortunately our son is freaking AWESOME, and was really chill yesterday and gave Jake some time to rest and relax. Jake said his sinus' is/was burning. I don't think I've ever had that happened. It's nice to beable to take care of Jake when he's like this, cause he rarely "needs" anything done for him. (even though he's the one that made the guac last night while we were trying to wrap up season 7 of Buffy- only 2 episodes left.)--to be fair, I was feeding the baby.
If you're reading this, you can pray for him to get better. He has 3 play performances this weekend.
Emmaus is doing great. Smiling and talking, especially during diaper changes.. and He's starting to swat at things, and grab for things more.
This morning when I put Emmaus back down after an early morning snack, I kept hearing him breathing. His nose sounded all dry and or stuffed up. I didn't want to torture him with the blue nose bulb at that time, cause I knew he'd get upset and might not go back to sleep, so I waited. When he woke me up an hour later, I took him into the nursery for the "procedure." I started sucking out the boogers, but his poor snot was looking a little bloody..not tons, just a little pink. I think it might be too dry in the house for him...might need to get a humidifier...(any advice?)
So point being: I was able to clear both nostrils, and he was such a sweetie while I was doing it. He's turn his head away from me, but he wasn't screaming like he's done in the past. I think he understands that the blue nose thingy helps him breath easier...even if it's uncomfortable. The he let me follow that up with a little q-tip swabbing of the nose to get any excess snot out, and then to finish it off, a wipe with some lotion. My son is amazing.
I took a video with my phone of him swatting at one of his Raffe's (pronounced raffee)(our nickname for his many giraffe friends.) I'll have to see if it will load onto blogspot, my computer doesn't seem compatable when it comes to loading up videos on this thing. (more pics to come soon.)

Not only has Emmaus starting trying to roll over, but this morning I found that he had somehow worked himself from the center of the bassinet to the top of it.
Jake had asked me last night if I had noticed that he was moving around when he slept/as he wakes up and starts his grunting...Today was the first time that I had seen it happen.
I think it's great he's using his muscles, but...I hope he knows when to stop moving around, I don't want him banging his head up against the top part of the crib...it's mesh material right now, but we will be moving him into the big boy crib sooner than later, and that's wood. I hope he doesn't hurt himself.
Yeah for progress, I guess.
